Please read through the IS 233 Makerspace policies before using the space.

• 一般规则
  • 1. 任何H&A Student or Faculty in the College may use the Makerspace from 9:00 AM to 9:00 PM, Mondays through Friday
       1. Students and Faculty must reserve time before using the 3D Printers, Laser Cutter, Photoshooting Station, or Conference Room.
       2. 3D Printers, Laser Cutter, and hand tools may only be used or checked out when a student assistant is on duty. 
       3. Unsupervised use after 小时 of Laser Cutter is not permitted. 
       4. The Main Room is available for student use whether the Tool Room is open or not during 操作时间. Certain equipment items are only available during staffed Tool Room 小时. Please plan accordingly or email to confirm the Tool Room will be available 给你. 
       5. The IS 233 space is a "clean" space. We do not allow woodworking, grinding, cutting 工具等. 在太空中. Those kinds of fabrication activities should occur in ART Central Shops in the Art Building.

  • 1. 类 can be brought in by a faculty member for 偶尔 使用,但 no recurring classes can be booked 在太空中.
       1. Faculty demo sessions need to be booked by the faculty, just as a student would (any equipment will also require reservation). 
       2. When a class is brought in for demonstration purposes, other students may still be using other equipment and working 在太空中s. 

Equipment-specific 政策

• VLS6.75 Laser Cutter 政策

  • Good Materials for Cutting, 1/4" (6mm) limit:

    1. Wood (avoid resinous woods as they may catch fire)
    2. 胶合板
    3. MDF (Medium-Density Fibreboard)
    4. Acrylic (cast or extruded)
    5. 缩醛树脂
    6. 纸
    7. 软木塞
    8. Cloth (natural fibers only)
    9. 磁性薄膜
    10. 刨花板
    11. Gator Board (doesn't look great, plastic shrinks and yellows)
    12. Leather (thinner than 1/8")

    All of the above can be etched. Even if it is thicker than 1/4", the laser bed can be lowered up to four inches to accomodate thicker material. 

    Materials good for etching ONLY:

    1. 玻璃

    4. Painted or Coated Metals
    5. Marble, Granite, Soapst一个, Onyx

     

    Not Allowed (Forbidden):

    1. Corrugated cardboard

    4. Vinyl/Pleather/Artificial Leather

    7. HDPE/Milk Bottle Plastic

    11. Coated Carbon Fiber

• Raise3D Pro2 3D Printer 政策 (2 Machines Available)
  • 1. Currently, print media is limited to materials on hand. No outside printer media is 允许.
    2. Prints must be able to be completed before closing time. Overnight printing is currently allowable only in special instances. 
    3. Software and Model Proofing: Please check your model using the Ideamaker software, specific to the Raise3D Pro2 devices. Bring the model in on a USB device at your print time to meet with the Lab Monitor. 
• Photo Table 政策
  • 1. Shooting area available by reservation or first come, first serve. 三个背景 are available (Black, Gray, White). 
    2. LED light kit is available for use in the 233 Space (not availalble for off-site use).
    3. No camera is provided. Users must provide their own camera and tripod, or use a smartph一个.

• Meeting Room 政策
  • 1. Available by reservation or first come, first serve. As of 3/2022, a data projector is available for use from the Tool Room. An HDMI cable is supplied with the projector.
